About The Position

Based in Leeds. The SEO Performance Director plays a critical role within XLMedia heading the SEO and Digital PR departments. Working in a pro-active capacity the SEO Director delivers measurable results for our global web portfolio and for our external client base.

A natural leader with a 5+ years of practical SEO strategy development and delivery, the SEO Performance Director can demonstrate superior, award-worthy digital marketing skills.

Every SEO strategy the company commits to will be approved and ultimately owned by the SEO Performance Director.

What’s the Job?

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • Be an inspiring leader by motivating and developing staff to help them grow and develop within their roles.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of key SEO campaigns and refine the strategy accordingly.
  • Supporting day to day operations to ensure continual high levels of service.
  • Troubleshoot performance and provide feedback to the wider search team.
  • A thorough understanding of the latest algorithm updates.
  • To attend and lead internal performance meetings/reviews and external client meetings as required.
  • Ensure OKRs and other agreed KPIs are met by the service delivery teams. Report back results to senior management.
  • Lead new business pitches from an SEO perspective and aid proposal writing.
  • Provide input on agency growth plans to determine the impact on current operations and the overall digital strategy.
  • Conduct interviews for the recruitment of new staff.
  • Take full responsibility for the line management of the ‘Heads of’ team.
  • Hold regular 1-2-1s and maintain a robust record of reporting/feedback.
  • Identify opportunities for members of the team to specialise in and help them achieve their SMART/competencies goals.
  • To take part in, and where possible contribute, to engaging training and internal learning sessions that inspire and motivate the team.

Analytical and Technical:

  • A solid understanding of HTML, site architecture, indexation, rendering, structured data, content optimisation and enterprise level SEO.
  • A sound practical knowledge of common web technologies (HTML/CSS, JS Libraries, PHP, Python, etc).
  • A firm grasp of page speed optimisation.
  • Crawling behaviour expertise including log file analysis, XML / HTML sitemaps, mobile botcrawl behaviour.


Requirements

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Robust technical SEO Skills.
  • Sound knowledge of industry standard SEO tools.
  • Enterprise level on-site & off-site SEO strategy and implementation.
  • Competitor analysis and stakeholder reporting.
  • A firm grasp on the critical role Digital PR plays in link acquisition.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • An expert in Mobile First SEO.


Key Skills and Experience:

  • Passion for emerging technologies and a broad knowledge of effective SEO strategies and techniques.
  • In depth understanding of how Google and other search engines rank pages.
  • Personal experience of achieving better-than-expected results (rankings/traffic/conversions).
  • Proven and verifiable experience in achieving high organic rankings across a variety of industry sectors.
  • Proficient user of Google Analytics and other major third-party analytics platforms.
  • Highly numerate and literate, with the ability to produce top quality written reports.
  • Advanced experience in project management and delegation of tasks.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
  • Outstanding staff management skills.
